"كلمات" هو العنوان الذي اختاره "علي جواد الطاهر" لمجموعة النصوص هذه التي يضمها كتابه هذا، وهي عبارة عن مقالات متفرقة كان قد نشرها في مجلات وصحف متنوعة، أو هي كلمات ألقاها في دار الإذاعة بين عام 1975 وعام 1976، إذ دعى صاحبها إلى الإسهام في حديث المساء بأن يخصص له يوم معين من كل أسبوع...
وهكذا فقد اجتمع للمؤلف من هذه "الكلمات" عدد لا بأس به، منه ما قاله في حفل ومنه قاله في ندوة... فرأى أن يمضه إلى الكلمات السابقة بمعنى القصر لجامع "اللطف" والطراوة، لتبدأ بكلمة في تكريم الجواهري (3/1/1969).
