وأحس إلهامي بمشاعر الناس فأنشد قصيدة احتجاج قادته إلى حتفه، فقد استدعاه الوالي وكان هذا يعني صدور حكم بالإعدام عليه. ولم يهب إلهامي ولم يجبن، وذهب في رحلة طويلة لكي يجابه الموت. ولكن لم تمض فترة طويلة حتى لقي الوالي نفس المصير
