اشتهر "دايفيد لورنس" كأحد الروائيين الأكثر إنتاجاً في أوائل القرن العشرين. وإلى جانب تميزه برواياته التي ألقت الضوء على المشاكل النفسية للمرة الأولى في تاريخ الأدب القصصي، فقد كتب عدداً كبيراً من المقالات والرسائل، والأشعار، والمسرحيات، وكتب الأسفار، والقصص القصيرة. أما أعماله الأخيرة فاصطبغت بالتأثير العميق الذي تركته في نفسه علاقته العاصفة بوالدة العنيف الشديد الانفعال وارتباطه العميق بوالدته الرقيقة ذات الطموحات الاجتماعية.
ورواية نساء عاشقات المنشودة عام 1920، هي تكملة غير تقليدية كروايته قوس قزح التي نشرها في أيلول عام 1915 ومنعت من التداول. وفي هذه الرواية برزت الشخصيات المميز ثان أورسولا وغودرن برانغوين، اللتان طرأ تطور مثير على مجرى حياتهما وتم عرض علاقات كل واحد منهما بالأقرباء والأصدقاء بأسلوب شيق غاية في الإبداع، لورنس كأحد أعظم الروائيين في القرن العشرين.
وما يميز هذه الطبعة التي بين أيدينا أنها جاءت موجه للطلاب ولذلك احتوت على الترجمة العربية للنص الإنكليزى للرواية وعلى ما يقابله من نص إنكليزي كما وتضمنت الطبعة على أسئلة تطبيقية تدور حول فهم النص.
