يتناول الباحث في كتابه هذا أثر المجاز في الدرس اللغوي. والحديث عن المجاز تجده في أصول النحو وأصول الفقه، وفي فقه الشريعة وفقه اللغة، وفي المؤلفات والمعاجم، وفي الأدب والبلاغة، وفي النقد والصرف، وفي الجدل والمنطق وفي التفسير... فهو حديث عن دلالة اللفظ العربي، وهو ذو تاريخ على مافيه من تنوع وتغير طويل يرجع إلى أربعة عشر قرناً من الزمان. وعلى ما فيه من طول تنقطع به الأسباب إن قبلاً وإن بعداً؛ إذ أن معاني الألفاظ غير ثابتة، وإنما تتغير بتغير ما حولها لا تلبث أن تجد الحياة متغيرة حتى ينتظمها التيار الجديد، فيخلع عليها ملاباساته بهدي من اللغة، وهو خيط دقيق هام لا مناص منه ولا مندوحة عنه، وهو النظام الضابط لها على مرّ التاريخ وهذا ما جعل أمر الدلالة شاقاً عسيراً، ويكفي الإشارة إلى أن مدلولات العقيدة مثلاً ألفاظ تجد فيها المعاناة، خاصة أن المتناولين ما بين سنّي ومعتزليّ وفقيه وأديب كل منهم يدلي في هذا المجال بدلاء.
من هنا يأتي هذا البحث الذي الدافع من وراءه الإشفاق على الدارسي لما هناك من خلط لم يكن سببه سوى هذا المجاز الذي سيّر وفق مسبقات إنتاجاً وتقبلاً. وقد جاء البحث على النحو التالي. مقدمة تتضمن أهم الأسس المناطة بما بين المنتج والقابل تمهيداً للكلام عن المجاز، ثم أتبع ذلك بكلام عن المجاز تتبعاً لمعنى اللفظ لغوياً ثم اصطلاحياً مع مراعاة ما وراء هذه التعبيرات من دوافع كان إيرادها على أساس أنها كاشفة عن طبيعة التجوز. وتبع ذلك حديث عن أسباب التجوز وعن مسالكه بما في ذلك حديث عن نوعية الدلالة له أو المعجم الخاص بالتجوز. وهذا يعد الجانب الأول من البحث. أما الجانب الثاني فكان وفق العنوان "أثر هذا في الدرس اللغوي"، فأملى البحث على المؤلف كلاماً عن قيمة هذا التجوز، بما هي آثار، وهو لب الموضوع، كلاماً عن المصطلح وبيان وقته ومزالقه. ومن موافقات الدرس استخلص الباحث عنوانين كبيرين للكلام عن الشاكلة والاعتبار، بما هي وجوه دلالة، اندرج تحتها أثر ذلك على اللغة؛ فهماً وإصداراً، ودلالةً وصياغةً. ثم اختتم البحث بخاتمة تضمنت تلخيصاً لأهم النتائج التي طلع بها الباحث في جولته في دنيا المجاز.
