أيقنت أن الرواية العراقية لم تزل بخير وأنا أقرأ (حمام نساء في أور) آخر ما أبدعه الكاتب العراقي نعيم عبد مهلهل، حيث يتماهى الحاضر في روح الماضي، سبعة ألاف سنة مسبوكة على هيئة أساطير قديمة وحمامات ملوك وقلاع حصينة ونساء يعزفن على قيثارات ما زالت في بطون المتاحف.
الرواية تحكي عن المطمور من تاريخ بلاد ما بين النهرين، وقد أخذ المؤلف فكرة الحمامات، عالم الغرائز المكبوتة التي تبحث عن مفتاح ينفع مع أقفالها، عالم المرأة المغلوب على أمرها، مع المرأة التي لا تغلب، مع المرأة التي تخاف من جسدها أن ينقلب عليها ويأخذ زمام الأمور في أن ينفعل ما يشاء ليكون بعد ذلك خارج السيطرة.
الحمام، الصورة الممنوعة وراء الحيطان الذكورية، هي نفسها الصورة المفضوحة برغم التكتم عليها، صورة حواء في أول يوم نزلت فيه إلى الأرض، صورة (الخالة) التي اغتصبها طفل (ماريو بارغاس يوسا) في مديحه لها، صورة مارلين مونرو وبريجيت باردو وهند رستم وصوفيا لورين، التي كنا نراها على دكة الطفولة وفي أول الصبا، صورة الرعشة والقشعريرة عندما تغلق الباب على طفل سينام في أحضان المرأة في أول لحظة سيغادر فيها البراءة.
