يعتبر الاتصال من العناصر الهامة وذا مكانة خاصة وضرورية في الحياة الاجتماعية في جوانبها واتجاهاتها المختلفة،فمن دونه يصعب إن لم يكن من المستحيل أن تصل الحضارة الانسانية إلى ما وصلت إليه الآن،لأنه من غير الممكن أن يتكون مجتمع دون وجود اتصال بين أفراده. إن أساس الحياه الاجتماعية هي الاتصال منذ بدأ الخلق ،بداية بين الطفل وأمه ولولا الاتصال لما كانت الحياة الاجتماعية . أما نحن ... المجال الذي نحن بصدد التحدث عنه أي الاتصال بين الأفراد فما زال مفتوحا لعمليات التطوير والتحسين لأنه يعتمد على قوى موجودة داخلهم وفي المحيط الذي يعيشون فيه اعتمادا على ذلك نقول إن الاتصالات عملية تفاعل تحدث داخل الأفراد أولا ومن ثم بين الأفراد في جميع جوانب الحياة التي نعيش فيها....أي أن الاتصال ظاهرة سلوكية اجتماعية انسانية. يقع الكتاب في اثني عشر فصلا،تناول الفصل الأول والثاني المكونات المختلفة للاتصال وعناصر عملية الاتصال من حيث المرسل والمستقبل والرسالة والوسيلة، ومن الفصل الثالث إلى الخامس الجوانب المختلفة للعملية الاتصالية ونظريات الاتصال وأهداف الاتصال ووظائفه ونماذج الاتصال العام وأنواع الاتصالات كانت من ضمن الفصل السادس والسابع من حيث اللغة والاتصال والاتصال التصويري وأنماط العلاقات بين الأفراد، ومن الفصل الثامن إلى العاشر تناول أنواع الاتصالات داخل المؤسسات والمنظمات المختلفة (العلاقة بين أطراف عملية الاتصال) وطريقة المقابلة في الاتصال والاتصالات المدرسية ووسائلها وأخيرا التواصل والاتصال التربوي والاتصال الصفي ونماذج وميادين الاتصال وأهدافها.
