لا ينكر أحد أمر النفوذ المتزايد لعلم النفس في مجالات العلوم والفنون الأخرى، ذلك النفوذ الذي يتعاظم يوماً بعد آخر، فقلما شوهدت آثار لعلم النفس في الكتب التي ألفت قبل ما يقرب من أربعين سنة في أمور الاقتصاد والإدارة والتجارة وغير ذلك. أما في عصرنا الحاضر فلا يوجد علم من العلوم مستقل عن طبيعة الإنسان وذهنيته، فالفاصلة بين العينية والذهنية أصبحت أصغر فأصغر واقل وضوحاً بمرور الأيام، وتزايد نفوذ علم النفس في جميع المجالات. والسؤال المطروح في هذه المرحلة هو أن علم النفس لم يكن موجوداً في السابق كعلم مستقل مع أنه علم لا يجهل أحد أهميته، فأي علم كان يحلّ محلّه سابقاً؟ الإجابة الدقيقة على هذا السؤال هي: علوم الإلهيات والآداب.
إن دور الأديان وتعاليم الأنبياء في إرشاد الناس وتسكين آلامهم ومعاناتهم الروحية وتعليمهم أساليب الحياة المقبولة وإرشادهم إلى الصراط المستقيم أمر لا يشك فيه وجدان منصف. ومع بداية القرن الحادي والعشرين بدأ الشر ينزع إلى التحرر من الحياة المادية والصناعية ويتجه إلى العرفان والتعرف على الهدف الحقيقي للحياة، ولهذا السبب فقد تلألأ اسم المولوي بصورة متزايدة في الكتب والمقالات الأخلاقية والمقالات التي تتناول علم النفس، بيد أن من المؤسف أن كتاباً لم يؤلف في التعرف على نظريات وفرضيات علم النفس الحديث الموجودة في ديوان المولوي. من هنا شرح المؤلف في هذا العمل حيث عقد دراسة مقارنة بين المعاني التي جاءت في ديوان المولوي وبين ما جاء في نفس الإطار في علم النفس الحديث.
