يركز موضوع هذا الكتاب على الاطراف الاساسية للعملية التعليمية التعلمية: الطالب والمعلم ومحتوى المنهج، بقصد توضيح العلاقة الجدلية بين هذه الاطراف، وتاثير كل منها في صياغة وتشكيل هذه العملية، وتظافر الادوار وتفاعلها في تحقيق العوائد التربوية من هذه العملية. ونظرا لكون طرق التدريس هي الاطر العامة التي تقدم من خلالها المعارف والمهارات المختلفة والعادات المتفاوتة والاتجاهات المرغوبة ضمن العملية التربوية المنظمة، فقد حاولنا ان نعرض امام الدارسين بعضا من الاختلاف في الاسس النظرية التي تنطلق منها وجهات نظر المربين الداعي الى اتباع طريقة معينة في التدريس، رغم اتفاقهم التام على الاهداف والغايات النهائية لعملية التربية.حيث روعي في الكتاب ان يفرض المحتوى فيه بطريقة تتوخى صحة المادة العلمية، وترتيب عرضها من الناحية المنطقية والنقسية. كما بدا الاهتمام جليا في دقة اللغة ووضوحها وصحتها وبساطتها في الوقت نفسه، لان من شأن مراعاة هذه الامور جميعا ان تعين الدارسين والدارسات على فهم مضامين الكتاب، وتقدرهم على التفاعل مع محتواه، فتهيء لهم فرص التعلم الشخصي الذي يقوم على مساعدة الدارس في تعلم نفسه بنفسه.
