"يتوجه ديوان "الشَّمعة" إلى كل فرد من أفراد العائلة، لا سيما اللبنانية منها، هو ليس كمثيله من الكتب، إنه يتضمن قصائد في اللغة العربية الفصحى وفي اللهجة العامية، وقصائد باللغتين الفرنسية والإنجليزية.
إن هدف الديوان الأول والأخير، هو إضاءة شمعةٍ حول موضوعات تُطرح لأول مرة، وبجرأة، أكانت إجتماعية أو دينية أو حتى قصائد حُبٍّ وغزل، تختلج النفس من خلالها فتنقلها من عالم الحلم إلى عالم الواقع المعاش...
من عتبة الإهداء الأولى التي يرسلها دافيد الدكّاش في ديوانه الشعري هذا، نقرأ نوع العلاقة بين المُهدي والمهتدى له، فإذا ما وقفنا على عتبة هذا المنجز الإبداعي يتضح لنا دون عناء بأنه يمثل "رسالة" إلى الوطن الذي يفتقده الشاعر على الرغم من وجوده داخله، وإلى الإنسان الذي يشتاق إليه، وإلى الأم التي أحبها، والمرأة التي عشقها، وإلى كل شيء جميل في هذا العالم الواسع.
وفي القصيدة المعنونة "بحرُ لبنان" نقرأ: "رسم المدُّ والجزرُ على جسدك... قصةَ حنانْ... تعالتِ الأمواجُ تغزلُ قصةَ حبٍّ بأمانْ... على شواطئ رمل وصخور بحر لبنان... غزتِ الأسماكُ تحيكُ لكِ ثوباً من حريرْ... تتمايل الحسناواتُ عابراتٍ نحو الأفق الملآنْ... الشبابُ في خضمِّ المعركة يتصارعون بعنفوانْ... ترى الأولاد يبنون بيوتاً بريشةِ فنانْ... مِنْ رملٍ وأحجار تُحرّرُ فكريَ الأسيرْ...
يضم الكتاب قصائد باللغة العربية الفصحى (الشعر العامودي) و(شعر التفصيلة"، وقصائد أخرى باللهجة المحلية ومنها أيضاً باللغة الفرنسية والإنجليزية، نذكر من العناوين: التبولة، السرعة، نفخ نفخ، عجفة سير، سهرة لطلوع الضو، العقيبة، بيان الحكومة، حرس الجرس... وعناوين أخرى.
