في القصة المعنونة "خط أزرق على وجه الليل" يعيش الشخوص حالة من الإغتراب اللاأخلاقي من خلال حرمانهم من رغبات مشروعة، فالجندي الذاهب إلى الموت لم تعد القيم تعني له شيئاً، والحاضر أصبح ضبابياً، يستعيد البطل ليلة كان يستقل حافلةً في الطريق إلى بغداد بصحبة صديقه، وأخذا يراقبان رجلاً نائماً وزوجته الشابة، ويد جندي جسورة تمتد في الخفاء، في وسط ليل الحافلة، المليء بالدخان والنعاس ... وأكمل الحكاية " ... الجندي، الزوجة الشابة ... عللت لها بأن الحرب خلقت آلاف الحكايات، ولأنها نعست ربما، قالت: وما علاقة الحرب؟ كان آلاف الجنود يُنقلون إلى الجبهات، والليل يجمع أحزانهم كانت حياتهم مروعة، تنزع منهم إنسانيتهم. ماذا تنتظرين من جندي يُساق إلى الموت؟ ...". وهكذا في بقية القصص، يرسم الروائي كل حالة في الشكل والمضمون والأهم في البعد الإنساني الأعمق ...
