دراسة تاريخية مكثّفة عن سيرة التابعي الجليل "مالك بن الحارث النخعي" الشهير "بالأشتر"، تتميز بأهمية إضافية حيث قدّمت أدلة قوية على أن القبر المشهور بين أهل بعلبك حتى اليوم بــ "قبر سيدي مالك" ليس إلا القبر الذي تأتي على ذكره ووصف موقعه عدة مصادر قديمة مشهورة قائلة أنه قبر "مالك الأشتر"...
كان عمل هذا الكتاب على أمرين اثنين: الأول: كتابةُ أوفى سيرة لــ"مالك الأشتر" وأقربها إلى الصّدق والصحّة، والثاني: العمل على حلّ لغز وفاته ومدفنه، وكانت خطة الكاتب أن يعرضَ في صفحات كتابه قراءتَه لتلك الفترة المفصليّة المُتأجّجة من خلال سيرة أحد أبرز أبطالها وصانعي أحداثها، سيضعُ بين يديه كلَّ ما قمّشه من مادةٍ حَدَثيةٍ تتصلُ بسيرة مالك بسببٍ أو غيره، ثم يستخدُمها في تركيب قراءةٍ للفترة، واضعاً نصْبَ عينيه هدفاً بعيداً هي مُساعدةُ القارئ على وضعٍ الحاضر في مكانه الصحيح.
إن يُوسّع من إدراكه للعمليّة التاريخيّة، بالقراءة الواعية للتاريخ، لينظرَ برؤيةٍ صادقةٍ إلى المُشكلات التي تُعكّرُ الحاضر وتُعيق تصوّراتنا للإفضل، لأنّ معرفة كيف عمل أسلافُنا في الماضي، أين أخطأوا في حقّنا، ماذا خسرنا بأخطائهم... إلخ، يمكن أن يفتحَ عيوننا على حقائق لم تكُن محلَّ عنايتنا، وعلى رؤىً خاطئة كنّا نظنها صواباً، عسى أن يُساعدنا ذلك على أن نتجنّبَ تكرار أخطائهم.
