لقد تبدو تجارب الأمس البعيد، موضوع هذا الكتاب، غير ذات شأن، بالنسبة إلى هموم اليوم، وكوارثه ومآسيه، ولكن للتاريخ حقاً، لأنه قد يبدد من المفارقة نشر كتاب عن تجربة شيوعية محلية تمتد إلى [46-1958] في الوقت الذي انهارت فيه الكتلة الشيوعية وتبرأ من الشيوعية أصحابها الكبار والأصليون.
ولكن كما ذكرنا للتاريخ حقه. ففي هذا الكتاب يلخّص المؤلف تجربته أثناء انتمائه إلى هذه الحركة، هذه التجربة ربما أفادت، ببعض جوانبها، القارئ الاعتيادي غير المختص، والباحث المختص، على السواء. ويجري تكثيف هذه التجربة من خلال التطور التاريخي والسياسي للعراق وللحركة الشيوعية فيه.
وأما فيما يختص منهجية هذا الكتاب، فإن فصله الأول عرض تاريخي عام وموجز للأحداث السياسية الهامة في العراق ما بين 1920-1958، تبعه ظروف وعوامل انتماء المؤلف للشيوعية في 1945-1946 ومسيرة الأحداث، ومواقف الحزب الشيوعي العراقي عشية ثورة 1958.
