نادين غوردمير: ولدت عام 1923 على بعد خمسين كم من جوها نسبورغ في جنوب أفريقيا. تنتمي عائلة الكاتبة الى الأقلية الأنكلوساكسونية في بلد يسيطر عليه الأفريقانيون. والدها مجوهراتي, أصله من ليتوانيا وأمها لندنية. تعلمت نادين القراءة في السادسة من عمرها. وفي الثانية عشرة بدأت بكتابة الحكايات. عندما كانت طفلة كانت مدرستها ديراً( مدرسة راهبات).
