لا شك أن التدريس الذي يقدمه معلمو التربية الخاصة يختلف عن التدريس الذي يقدمه معلمو الطلبة العاديين، وقد تشتمل التربية الخاصة على برامج تربوية وتدريبية علاجية سواء في المجالات الأكاديمية أو الشخصية أو الإنفعالية، والهدف الرئيسي الذي تسعى إليه هذه البرامج هو تمكين الطلبة ذوي الحاجات الخاصة من تجاوز القيود والمستجدات التي تفرضها حالة العجز أو الإعاقة وتطوير مهاراتهم إلى أقصى ما تسمح به قابليتهم وهكذا، فإن التربية العلاجية هو أحد الأوجه الرئيسية لبرامج تعليم الطلبة ذوي الحاجات الخاصة. من هنا يضع الدكتور سليم الحربي هذه الدراسة الهامة في (طرق وأساليب التدريس وإرشاد ذوي الإحتيالجات الخاصة) وهي من الأهمية بمكان لمعلمي ذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة والإرشاد التربوي لهم ولأسر الأطفال من ذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة، حيث يهتم بطرق مساعدة الطفل المكفوف على تعلم القراءة والكتابة بطريقة بريل، وتدريب الطالب الأصم على استخدام المعينة السمعية لمعالجة المعلومات اللغوية واستخدام لغة الإشارة التواصل مع الآخرين وغيرها من إعاقات.
يتوزع الكتاب على ستة مباحث هي: 1- إدارة الصف لذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة، 2- تدريس الأطفال الموهوبين، 3- تدريس الأطفال الصم" ، 4- إرشاد ذوي الحاجات الخاصة وأسرهم ومعلميهم.
