يطلق إسم جزر البليار حالياً على مجموعة من الجزر في غرب البحر المتوسط، تشكل أرخبيلاً يغطي مساحة كبيرة تصل إلى 4900 كم2 ، وتتكوّن من خمس جزر رئيسية، هي ميورقة ومنورقة ويابسة وفرمنتيرة وقبريرة، وتتميز بموقع جغرافي استراتيجي هام بين سواحل شرق أسبانيا وجنوب فرنسا وغرب إيطاليا، ولن تُفاجأ إذا عرفت إن هذه الجزر هي الشاطىء اللازودي الذي ترقص فيه وتنام اليوم جنات نيس وكان ومونت كارلو ... وما ضمت. من هنا جاءت هذه الدراسة لتكشف لنا "جزر الأندلس المنسية" التي تشكل جزءاً ضخماً من تاريخ العرب المسلمين في الأندلس الأصلية والتي لا نعرف عنها شيئاً إلا القليل. لقد تمكن مؤلف الكتاب الدكتور "عصام سالم سيسالم" بعد أن سافر إلى جزر البليار شخصياً، من جمع معلومات هامة عن هذه الأرض المنسية رغبة منه كما يقول في تقديم: "بحث متكامل عن تاريخ المسلمين السياسي والحضاري في هذه الجزر، خاصة وأن الشواهد العديدة التي تمكنت من الإطلاع عليها منذ البداية كانت تكشف الدور الكبير الذي أسهم فيه أهل هذه الجزر في حركة الجهاد البحري في الحوض الغربي للبحر المتوسط، وما كان لهم من دور متميز في الحضارة الإسلامية ...".
تتألف الدراسة من قسمين: الأول في التاريخ السياسي لجزر البليار في العهد الإسلامي والثاني لمعالم الحضارة الإسلامية منها. وتتضمن إشارة المؤلف إلى الغزوات البحرية الإسلامية على هذه الجزر، وتسليط للضوء على تاريخ المملكة المجاهدية العامرية في دانية وجزر البليار وأبرز أحداثها للفترة (405-468ه)، في عهد كل من مجاهد العامري ثم عهد كل من عبد الله المرتضي ومبشر ابن سليمان ناصر الدولة للفترة (468-508ه) . يتبع ذلك تاريخ جزر البليار في عهد المرابطين للفترة (543-600ه) ، ثم في عهد الموحدين والإمارة الحكمية في ميورفة للفترة (600-686ه) وفيه توضيح شامل لدور الأمير "أي يحي محمد بن علي بن موسى بن أبي عمران التملي" في التصدي للحملة الصليبية، ووصف كيفية سقوط جزيرة ميورفة ومصير سكانها، ودور المقاومة الشعبية ضد الغزاة، ... وأحداث أخرى ذات صلة .
