تحت عنوان "إغتراب الإنسان وحريته" يقدم الدكتور سالم بيطار دراسة فلسفية حول العلاقة بين الإغتراب وحرية الإنسان، متتبعاً مفهوما الإغتراب والحرية وآلياتهما ومن كتب عنهما من فلاسفة الغرب والشرق، ثم التيارات الفكرية التي تناولت كلٌ من المفهومين مقارناً بين هذا التيار وذاك، محللاً الآراء، مفككاً المفاهيم، مناقشاً للنظريات. وقد بدا صاحب هذه الدراسة قريباً جداً من آراء الفلاسفة الذين وردوا باختياره في كتابه ومنهم "نيتشه" ونظريته حول "العود الأبدي إلى البداية" ، وديكارت في قوله "أنا افكر، إذاً أنا موجود" ، وعبثية ألبير كامو القريبة من الإغتراب وقوله "أن الإنسان الذي فقد حريته يغدو بلا هوية، لأنه يعاني حينئذ، فقدانه القدرة على التفكير والتجمعن والتحرر"، وقد مال المؤلف خلال مدة من الزمن إلى تسمية هذه العقدة بـ "الإغتيار" Alius أي الآخر، أو الغير، لأن معنى هذه العقدة تغيير الهوية ولجم "الأنا"، وهما قضيتان تجمعان الفلسفة والتحليل النفسي في حقل واحد. إن سالم بيطار توغل في هذا التيار مستشهداً بحاجة بول سارتر الذي رأي "اغتيار" الإنسان تعرضه نظرة الغير إليه. فنظرة الآخر إليه تحوله مجرد موضوع بعيداً عن الذات وخضوعها للمجتمع ... كذلك يعرض سالم بيطار في هذا المجال لكل من مادية ماركس، و مثالية هيغل، كونهما يتفقان في تبيان اغتراب الإنسان في العصر الحديث.
يتألف الكتاب من خمسة فصول جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: الفصل الأول: إغتراب الإنسان في المجتمع العربي، ومفهوم الإغتيار: تاريخه واستعمالاته، الفصل الثاني: أصل الإنسان ومصيره: نظريات الإغتراب، الفصل الثالث: الإغتراب الوجودي عند جان بول سارتر، الفصل الرابع: القيود في أصل الإنسان وتكوينه، والفصل الخامس: الحرية في المجتمع الحديث.
