إننا نفتخر بتاريخنا الإسلامي، ولا سيما التاريخ الفكري منه، ولقد كان لكل حقل من حقول المعرفة الإسلامية علماء ورجال خدموه وتخصصوا فيه، وأعظم هؤلاء العلماء هم المحدثون الذين تخصصوا في علم الحديث دراية ورواية. فتاريخ المحدثين حافل بالرحلات والصبر والإحاطة والحفظ، وما منهم إلا من شارك في إقامة بناء هذا العلم العظيم الذي لا يوجد عند أمة من الأمم غيرنا، من حيث نشر هذا العلم وخدمته وإيصاله إلى أهله المقتدين برسولهم محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم. وكان لعلماء الحديث فضل في إقامة البناء والصرح المادي وهي الدور التي كانت تغصن بطلاب هذا العلم، فإنتشرت هذه الدور في شتى أنحاء الأرض تبنى حيث يدعة إلى التمسك بسنة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فيها وفي المساجد أيضاً. ولقد كانت دمشق من أعظم البلاد وأكثرها إهتماماً بهذا الدور فإنتشرت العشرات منها في كل جزء من هذا البلد، وكلها يهدف إلى الهدف النبيل ذاته، خدمة للسنة وروايتها. إن مؤلف هذا الكتاب يقوم بتأريخ لهذا الدور ويخصص حديثه عن دور الحديث في دمشق فيذكر الزمان والمكان الذي بنيت فيه، ومن بناها وساهم في إعمارها، ويتحدث ويترجم لعلماء الحديث الذين ساهموا في نشر هذا العلم بهذه الدور، وقام بتوثيق تلك المجالس والسماعات التي كانت تقام في هذه الدور، كل ذلك مساهمة منه في بيان عظمة الحديث وعلمائه ومن ثم هو تأريخ لدور الحديث في دمشق خاصة.
