عن الحسن بن علي المجتبي عليه السلام، حين حضرته المنية واستعد للرحيل، وعظ جنادة بن أبي أمية، مستهلاً كلامه بقوله: "استعد لسفرك، وحصل زادك قبل حلول أحلك".
وروي أن أمير المؤمنين، علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام، كان إذا أذهب الناس إلى مضاجعهم ينادي بأعلى صوته، بحيث يسمعه جيرة المسجد، فيقول: "تجهزوا، رحكم الله، فقد نودي فيكم بالرحيل". يريد بذلك: أنكم خذوا ما يغنيكم هناك من العمال الصالحة الخيرة، فإن أمامكم عقبات كؤود، وسبلاً وعرة، ومنازل مهولة، ومعابر مخوفة، ومجاهل مظلمة.
وها نحن نشير إلى بعض تلك العقبات، والأهوال الشديدة، والمنازل الموحشة، كما نشير في فصول إلى بعض ما يصلح لتلك الصعاب بإيجاز واختصار، إذ لا يوجد في زماننا هذا من يرغب في مثل هذه المواعظ والمطالب، ولذلك فقد اكتفينا بهذا الوجيز.
