رئيس جمهورية الكونغو وتولى منصب رئيس جمهورية الكونغو.
خلال أول فترة له كرئيس ، ترأس نظام الحزب الواحد لحزب العمل الكونغولي (PCT ) لمدة 12 عاما .
تحت ضغوط شديدة ، وقال انه قدم التعددية الحزبية في عام 1990 ثم تم تجريده من سلطاته التنفيذية من قبل المؤتمر الوطني لعام 1991 ، وتبقى في منصب رئيس شرفي للدولة.
كان واقفا كمرشح في الانتخابات الرئاسية في عام 1992 لكنه هزم ، وكان مركزه الثالث.
كان ساسو نغيسو زعيم المعارضة لمدة خمس سنوات قبل ان يعود الى السلطة في ختام الحرب الأهلية، ويدعم ساسو نغيسو من قبل مجموعة متنوعة من الأحزاب السياسية.
انضم إلى الجيش عام 1960 قبل منح البلاد الاستقلال.
وتلقى تدريبا عسكريا في الجزائر.
وكان في وقت لاحق جزءا من الانقلاب العسكري عام 1968 الذي جلب مارين نجوبي إلى السلطة، وكان عضوا مؤسسا في حزب العمل الكونغولي (حزب الكونغولي دو العناء، PCT) في ديسمبر كانون الاول عام 1969.
