في كتابه هذا يتناول أ. د. فكرت رفيق السَّيِّد مفهوم (الجماعة) في منهج الأستاذ محمد فتح الله كولن وموقفه من إشكالية هذا المفهوم في الخطاب الإسلامي المعاصر يقول: "تأتي تجربة الأستاذ محمد فتح الله كولن في العمل الجماعي الإسلامي، القائمة على تربية الإنسان المسلم، روحياً وعقلياً وجسدياً وسلوكياً، لتدشن مشروعه النهضوي الكبير الذي سيقود أمتنا إلى الإمام ويفتح أمامها كل منجزات العصر".
وعليه، يضيء الكتاب على المفهوم الجديد للجماعة، بإعتبارها تشكل إشكالية كبرى في الخطاب السياسي الإسلامي المعاصر، بكل إتجاهاته وتياراته، حيث يعرض المؤلف لمختلف التيارات والآراء والأفكار ويناقشها بالتلازم مع مشروع الأستاذ كولن التربوي وما يتضمنه من مفاهيم وتصورات للعالم بكل مشاكله وإكراهاته.
وإذا كان العالم الآن آخذ في التشكل من جديد وبصورة تنفتح معها الآفاق لولادة أساليب مختلفة من التفكير أو التأليف والتركيب، فإن فلسفة الأستاذ كولن هي ما يمكن وسمها بالوسطية أو الجماعة الوسطية، تلك التي لا تعتمد مركزية القائد والسلطة والحركة، بل تعتمد مبدأ التنوع في عملها والإنفتاح على الآخر وإنهاء إحتكار جماعة معينة للعمل الإسلامي، والتأكيد على "تعددية الجماعة في الحركة الإسلامية المعاصرة".
