قد يتصوّر البعض للوهلة الأولى، أن هذا الكتاب يجمع بين دفّتيه تكراراً لموضوع قديم؛ غير أن هذا التصور سرعان ما يتبدد منذ قراءة الصفحات الأولى، إذ يجد القارئ نفسه أمام بحث عصري يلامس الواقع الحديث للخطأ الطبي الذي تجدد بفعل التطوّر العلمي المتسارع في هذا الحقل. قد يكون الخطأ الطبي المثال الأكثر تعبيراً لمواكبة القانون لواقع العصر؛ فالمسؤولية الطبية تتجدد ويتبدّل إطارها السابق كلما برز تطور علمي حديث. لم يعد الطب مقتصراً على العلاج بل تجاوزه الى مرحلة الوقاية؛ فبرز الطب الوقائي مجالاً قائماً بذاته الى جانب الطب العلاجي، ما فرض رؤية جديدة للمسؤولية الطبية وآفاقاً لم تكن قائمة من قبل. وأصبح للآلة الطبية دوراً جديداً لم يكن لها في السابق، ما فرض معالجة المسؤولية الناشئة عنها من منظار حديث.
انعكست كل هذه المستجدات على أسلوب الكاتب ونهجه واختياره لمواضيع الكتاب، بالرغم من عدم تعرّضه بصورة مباشرة لهذه الأمور، لكن دراسته أتت متأثرة الى حدّ بعيد بالحداثة بدون أن يهمل القواعد الثابتة التي قامت عليها المسؤولية الطبية. لقد تمكن الكاتب بأسلوب متمايز الجمع بين البعدين الإنساني والفني للخطأ الطبي، كما أشار الى عدم جوازية الإبقاء على الطابع الفردي للخطأ الطبي؛ فالأعمال الطبية الحديثة باتت تستلزم تدخلاً جماعياً لا فردياً للأطباء ما يطرح موضوع المسؤولية التضامنية بين الأطباء. كل هذه المواضيع تشابكت في ما بينها لتؤدي غاية الكاتب من وضع الكتاب، المتمثلة في إبراز الخطأ الطبي بحلّته المعاصرة، وقد نجح في مهمته الصعبة الى حد بعيد.
إلى جانب الأسلوب العلمي المتجدد، تميز الكتاب بمنهجية سليمة ساهمت الى حد بعيد في إيصال الفكرة للقارئ الذي يستوقفه الكم الهائل من المراجع الحديثة والقديمة التي استرشد بها الكاتب، ما ساعده كثيراً على ربط الوضع التقليدي للمسؤولية الطبية بوضعها المعاصرة.
