علم الحديث الشريف، هو علم إسلامي بحت نشأ ونما ليحفظ أقوال المعصومين عليهم السلام التي هي بيان وتفسير للقرآن الكريم. ولهذا العلم الشريف في المكتبة الإسلامية سهم كبير ومكان عالٍ، فالعلوم الأخرى من تفسير وفقه وعقائد... تعتمد عليه وتستمدّ منه، فهو المصدر الأول للمفسر والفقيه والمتكلم والعارف... لذلك عني علماء المسلمين بهذا العلم، فوضعوا له الأسس والمعايير، التي تضبط أصوله وفروعه وأسموه بعلم دراية الحديث وكان أن نبغ عباقرة ثقات حفظوا هذا العلم للأمة، وكان منهم من يحفظ مئات الألوف من الأحاديث بأسانيدها، ودوّنوا الكتب المهمة الضخمة منه، ومن هذه الكتب كتاب "أعلام الدين" للشيخ "الحسن بن أبي الحسن الديلمي" وهو علم من أعلام القرن الثامن الهجري وهو كتاب جامع فيه طائفة مفيدة قيمة من الحديث الشريف، وقد بناه مؤلفه على أبواب وفصول، ذكر من كل باب وفصل منها مجموعة من الأحاديث الشريفة.
بدأ المؤلف كتابه بفصل في المؤمن وما خصه الله وحباه من كريم لطفه.. وأتبعه بفصل عن الدليل على حدوث الإنسان وإثبات محدثه ثم ساق المؤلف كتاب (البرهان على ثبوت الإيمان) لأبي الصلاح التقي بن نجم بن الحلبي واتبعه بالخطبة الخالية من الألف المنقولة عن أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام ثم يتحدث عن أهمية القرآن في حياة المسلمين...
هذا وقد ضمن المؤلف كتابه العديد من المواعظ والحكم وأقوال الحكماء والمؤمنين الصادقين، ومواقفهم البطولية في مواجهة طواغيت زمانهم. وكان للشعر الحكمي والعرفاني عند الديلمي منزلة سامية، فقد ذكر من هذه الأشعار مجموعة طريفة. وختم كتابه بنصائح قيمة للقارئ اللبيب، وهي خلاصة معاناة المؤلف في حياة زاهدة تقيه مؤمنه. ومن مميزات الكتاب انفراده بأحاديث لم يعثر عليها في الكتب الروائية الموجودة في حينه. هذا وقد جاء الكتاب محققاً إذ تجلى عمل المحقق بتقويم النص، وضبط عباراته، تخريج الأحاديث والروايات والمتون المنقولة من المصادر الأصلية.
