كثيراً ما يلتبس على الناس مفهوم التربية الجنسية في ضوء حضارة العصر العلمية، ولهذا يفتقد التعريف الصحيح لهذا المفهوم. كما أن الناس يرفضون أصلاً الخوض في الحديث عن التربية الجنسية بحسب ظنهم أن ذلك يعني تعليم الأطفال أشياء حول الجنس تفتح أذهانهم لم كان ينبغي أن تدفعهم إلى التفكير فيه، باعتبار الجنس من المحرمات حتى في أحط الثقافات وأكثرها بدائية.
فمسائل الجنس والنكاح والزواج والولادة ينبغي أن تصان من التطفل وأن لا يعيها إلا الكبار في أوقات معينة من العمر، وكلما اقتضت الحاجة إلى أن يتعرف البالغ عليها بحسب حاجته. إلا أن هنا فريقاً من الناس يدعو إلى التثقيف الجنسي وخاصة للشباب في سن البلوغ على رغم أن التغيرات الجنسية التي تطرأ على الشباب تستلزم أن يعدّ لها الشباب إعداداً، باعتبارها من المسائل الملحة التي قد تترتب عليها اضطرابات قد تستمر إلى ما بعد البلوغ فتؤثر على السمات الخلقية للشخصية.
في هذا الإطار تأتي هذه الموسوعة الطبية الجنسية والتي تبين كيفية التعامل بين البشر، كما تبين المراد من الفرد من حيث السلوك والهيئة العامة، لتوضح من ثم معنى وجاهية الحب والجنس والغاية منها، لتطرح بعدها موضوع العلاقة التي تقوم بين الفتيان والفتيات، بداية من المواعدة ومشاكل اللقاء الأول والخطوبة والسلوك أثناءها، والزواج والتوافق فيها.
ولا تقف هذه الموسوعة في انتقاءاتها عند هذا الحدود بل هي تمتد إلى مسألة الحمل والولادة لتلقي الضوء وكخطوة توجيهية، على الأمراض الجنسية التي تصيب كلا الجنسية مع بيان الأعراض، والتشخيص والعلاج وأخيراً يمكن القول بأن هذه الموسوعة تستعرض معنى علم الجنس، والجنس وفلسفته، وذلك مع منظور علمي تثقيفي واعي.
