هذا الكتاب جزء من مجموعة تهدف الى تعريف القارىء العربي بالفكر والأدب الهولندي بالذات, وذلك في إطار محاولة سد ثغرة معرفية هامة في علاقتنا بالآخر, إذ كان للتجربة الاستشراقية الهولندية دور كبير وهام في تشكيل الوعي الغربي فيما يتعلق بالتفاعل ما بين الشرق والغرب. وقد أفرزت التجربة الهولندية العديد من الأسماء التي كان لها أثر عميق على المسيرة التطورية للفكر الغربي. وتعتبر رواية القوة الخفية تحفة من تحف الخيال النفسي التي خطت سطورها بقلم أحد عظماء الأدب في هولندا. وتقع أحداث الرواية على جزيرة جاوة في نهايات القرن الماضي, وتصف مأساة فان أودجيك, وهو موظف رفيع في الإدارة الاستعمارية. يعتبر الكتاب هاماً على الصعيد الأدبي والتأريخي وذلك لما يصفه عن طبيعة العلاقة بين المستعمرين والمستعمَرين في الهند الشرقية الهولندية. وعلى الرغم من أن الرواية ألفت قبل خمسة وأربعين سنة من استقلال إندونيسيا إلا أنها تشرح الأسباب التي حتمت زوال الإمبراطورية الاستعمارية الهولندية. إذ ما كان انهيار الأفراد إلا دلالة على هشاشة العملية الاستعمارية برمتها.
