يبحث هذا الكتاب بقراء الصحافة المكتوبة بصفة عامة، باعتبار أن فعل القراءة يعتبر سلوكاً اجتماعياً متعلقاً بوسائل الإعلام وبالتحديد ظهور صحافة الإثارة في الجزائر وعليه تندرج هذه الدراسة ضمن ما يعرف بـ "بحوث القراء أو بحوث قراء الصحف" ومن خلال عمل الباحث عينة محددة في الزمان والمكان، ومن أجل الوصول إلى وصف هذا الجمهور في خصائصه الديمغرافية مثل الجنس والسن والمستوى التعليمي، استطاع توضيح عملية قراءة هذه الصحف وعاداتها عند مجموع هؤلاء الأفراد. من هنا، تطرح هذه الدراسة الإشكالية التالية في ما يتعلق بمعرفة جمهور صحافة الإثارة في الجزائر، فتتساءل الدراسة في البداية عن طبيعة القارئ وصفاته (من يقرأ؟) ثم عادات القراءة لديه (ماذا يقرأ؟ وكيف يقرأ؟) وأخيراً عن مجموع اهتماماته في القراءة (لماذا يقرأ).
تهدف الدراسة إلى الوصول إلى وصف دقيق لجمهور قراء ما يسمى بالصحافة الفنية أو الصحافة الإجتماعية بالنسبة إلى مجموع العاملين في مختلف تلك المؤسسات التي تصدرها، وبتعبير أوضح "المرسل" وتعرف باسم الصحافة الصفراء أو صحافة الإثارة في أوساط البائعين والقراء، مع الأخذ بعين الإعتبار طابع النسبية...
