وقد انطلق المؤلف في بحثه هذا بعد أو أوضح منشأ الفرضية التي تحدثت عن أمية الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وجهله بالقراءة والكتابة ومصدرها وخلال اعتماد أصحابه في طرحهم لها على سلبيات عدة من قصر النظر في تفسير القرآن، والتضارب في آراء المفسرين، وضيق الأفق في تحليل الحديث، وانحراف الرواية في بحث الإيجاز، والأخذ بآراء بعض المستشرقين.
