يُعنى هذا الكتاب فيما كان يسمى سابقاً بالقضية الهندية، وهي قضية معقدة تضافر الإستعمار والإختلافات العرقية والدينية والإجتماعية بين مئات الملايين من سكانها على إيصالها إلى نقطة تحوّل أساسي في تاريخها.
في هذا الكتاب يغطي الكاتب باسيل دقاق التاريخ السياسي لدولة الباكستان في العام 1947 وهي البدايات الأولى لتقسيم الهند إلى دولتين، حيث اعتبرت الباكستان دولة المسلمين الهنود، والهند دولة الهنود الهندوس. فما هي حقيقة النزاع بين الهندوس والمسلمين والأسباب الجوهرية التي باعدت بينهما، وما هو دور الإنكليز الذين استغلوا هذا التنافر والإنقسام في السيطرة على الهند، وما هي ردة فعل حزب المؤتمر الهندي على إعلان الإنكليز، بلسان رئيس حكومتهم آنذاك "كلينت أتلي" ، إنهم سيجلون عن الهند في حزيران 1948 بعد تسليم الهنود مقاليد الحكم، ومنح هندوستان وباكستان وإعطائهما صفة "دومنيون" أي إستقلالاً مشروطاً ببقائهما في نطاق الإتحاد البريطاني، ومن ثمّ إجراء إستفتاء في المناطق المنازع عليها بين الهندوس والمسلمين، وعن قبول حزب المؤتمر الهندي والرابطة الإسلامية وزعيم السيخ بهذا المشروع إلى آخر ذلك من تفاصيل سيجدها القارىء في هذا الكتاب بالتفصيل ...
