هذا الكتاب ليس تأريخاً لحركة "فتح" أو للحركة الوطنية الفلسطينية بقيادة م. ت. ف فهذه مهام أكبر من أن يتصدى لها عمل متواضع من هذا النوع، مع أن الكتابة عن خليل الوزير، وحتى يعطى حقه كاملاً وبمشكل منصف، تقتضي التأريخ لحركة "فتح" والحركة الوطنية الفلسطينية.
وفي سياق إعداد هذه الدراسة جرى الإعتماد على عدة مصادر منها: مقابلات مع بعض من عرفوا خليل الوزير عن كثب ومنذ صباه ورفاق عمره في النضال وبعض من عملوا معه، كما جرى مراجعة بعض كتابات خليل الوزير المبكرة عن حركة "فتح" ومواكبته لتأسيسها وتطورها، وبعض كتاباته اللاحقة، وكذلك ما نشر من كتابات عنه وعن الحركة الوطنية الفلسطينية باللغتين العربية والإنكليزية، ولأن خليل الوزير كان رجل العمل الصامت ولم يشأ وضع نفسه تحت الأضواء فإنه لم يكتب عنه سوى القليل، رغم إنغماسه المكثف وتاريخه الطويل ودوره البارز والمميز في نشأة حركة "فتح" واستمرارها وتطورها لتصبح الحركة الأكبر على الساحة الفلسطينية.
