كتابين من كتب التاريخ المهمّة يتحدّثان عن أهمّ الفترات التاريخية المتقدمة. أولّهما كتاب القضاعي عيون المعارف وفنون أخبار الخلائف الذي بدأ فيه من خلق آدم عليه السلام إلى خلافة الظاهر أي إلى سنة سبعة وعشرين وأربعمائة وهو كتابٌ نفيسٌ جدّاً مع اختصاره وإيجازه إلا أنه يعد أصلاً من المصادر المنقولة عنها. والكتاب الثاني هو تاريخ ابن أبي الهيجاء الذي يتحدّث فيه من أحداث سنة 358هجرية إلى سنة 522 هجرية.
