بين مادية الحضارة الغربية، وروحانية الحضارة الإسلامية يدور موضوع مقالة الأستاذ أحمد الصناديقي المعنونة "جريمة المدينة الحديثة"... التمرد على الدين وحاضر المسلمين" والتي تأتي من ضمن سلسلة مقالات نشرت في مجلة الرابطة الإسلامية سنة (1352هـ) في محاولة من المؤلف للرد على المذهب الواقعي السائد آنذاك في الغرب والذي برز على يد زعيميه "كونت" و"سبنسر"، وبه أصبحت المعرفة هي معرفة القوانين الطبيعية التجريبية المستمدة من التجربة ومشاهدة الحوادث الطبيعية.
وفي مقابل هذه المادية يولي المؤلف أهمية للأديان السماوية ولا سيما الدين الإسلامي الذي يعتبره دين الفطرة، ومرمى كل عواطف النفس وغايتها والذي "لا يكلف الإنسان إلا بما ينطبق على طبيعته ويناسب حال جبلته".
بينما اعتبر المدينة القريبة "تتمشى على مبدأ التناحر على البقاء أي أن كل شخص اصبح يشعر بأن أخاه يزاحمه على البقاء لا أن يساعده على الوصول إليه، فهو إذن مضطر أن يعمل بكل قواه لتثبيت بقائه وحفظه من منازعه...".
كما يبين المؤلف أن روح التمرد على الدين هو جريمة هذه المدينة الأوروبية الحديثة، وهذه الجريمة امتد تأثيرها إلى المجتمع الإسلامي، لذلك يخاطب القارئ قائلاً "فإذا أردت أيها المسلم أن تكون لك حياة حافلة بأسمى معاني الإنسانية تجد فيها مطالب الروح والجسد فعليك بمدينتك الإسلامية..."، ويؤكد على هذا بإيراد أقوال لمفكرين من الغرب والشرق ومقتبسات من القرآن الكريم والسُّنَّة الشريفة...
