تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى توضيح تنوّع الطبائع البشرية وتعقدها وديناميتها، إنطلاقاً من تحليل وعرض مختلف نظريات تصنيف الطبع والشخصية، التي حاولت إدراك حقيقة النفس البشرية.
ونظراً لوفرة هذه النظريات، فإن دراستنا هذه لا تدعي الإسهاب والإحاطة الشاملة بها بل ستقتصر على أهم هذه النظريات محللة معاييرها وتصنيفاتها، وسنبيّن، إنطلاقاً من هذه التصنيفات، كيف تم إستنتاج "أنماط" الطبائع الصافية التي تدعي إدراك الحقيقة النفسية البشرية، ولا تهمنا هذه "الأنماط" الصافية إلا في الإطار الذي يسمح لنا بفهم الطبائع والمواقف والتصرفات البشرية نظريّاً.
تتضمن هذه الدراسة خمسة أقسام: "تاريخ علم الطبائع: أ-علم الطبائع الشعبي، ب-علم الطبائع العلمي"، "الطبع والشخصية: أ-الشخصية، ب-الشخصية الإجتماعية، ج-الطبع، د-الطبع والحياة الشخصية"، "عوامل الطبع: أ-العوامل الأساسية: الإنفعالية والفعالية والترجيع، ب-العوامل التكميلية"، "الشخصية المرضية: أ-نمطية رايخ REICH، ب-نمطية يونغ JUNG، ج-نمطية زوندي SZONDI، د-نمطية الجيشتالت GESTALT، هـ-أنماط الشخصيّة الطبيعيّة - المرضيّة - [سمات الطبع المرضيّة]، "نماذج الطبائع: دراسة مطبّقة على شخصيات أدب نجيب محفوظ".
