العلاقة بين الإنسان وذاته هي الفضاء الروائي الذي تدور فيه "دروب" ناصر صالح القصصية هذه، وهو يفعل ذلك في ضوء العلاقة الإشكالية بين الذات والمجتمع، والمريض والطبيب المعالج، غير أن المفارق هو أن هذه الحالة كما في (المواجهة) القصة التي يفتتح بها المؤلف مجموعته، تشارك الطبيب المعالجة، فتتوزع الأدوار بين المعالج والمريض معاً، ويبدو أن كماً كبيراً من ثقافة التحليل النفسي تميز بها المؤلف من خلال الشكل والمضمون وتحليل التصرفات والحالة التي يتحدث عنها والتي ترفض وجودها في هذا المكان مع اعتراف البطل بأنه يعاني "من إضطراب علاقتي بالوجود كله. أزمتي نفسية وجودية، وأعمق بكثير من علاقتي بأبي وأمي، وهذا ما بدأت أفكر فيه بعد حواري مع الطبيب الشاب ...". إذاً نحن إزاء حالة تعي وجودها وذاتها وقررت أن ترفض حياة المجتمع التي تنتمي إليه، وتفضل حياة حقيقية في مستشفى المجانين "إنني هنا لأنني رفضت حياة الزيف، والخداع، والأقنعة، لأنني قررت أن أعيش حقيقتي ...". وعلى هذا الدرب تسير قصص المجموعة يمارس من خلالها المؤلف ومن ورائه / الراوي نوعاً من الإستنطاق النفسي لشخوصه، ويقف وجهاً لوجه أمامها بانحرافاتها وزيفها عن المنظومات المجتمعية، وهي شخصيات على ما يبدو تمارس باتداداتها نحو الأعماق نوعاً من النقد الذاتي وهو شيءٌ صحي تمظهر في أكثر من حدث وفعل، حيث التحول من حالة نفسية إلى أخرى، وهي بالتأكيد تعكس مختلف حالات تعيش بيننا، بقناع زائف كما يراها الراوي، وعبّر عنها بكل دلالاتها بما فيها من رعب، عدم اطمئنان، إنهيار للقيم الإنسانية ... ولكل ما يجعل الفرد يضع حاجزاً بين ذاته والآخرين.
يضم الكتاب تسع قصص قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "المواجهة" ، "العربية" ، "أبو العرفان" ، "صحوة متأخرة" ، "الحوريات" ، "الكورنيش" (...) وقصص أخرى.
