هذا الكتاب هو شرح لكتاب "علم الحال" للعلامة الشيخ أحمد بن عبد الغني عابدين (1244هـ - 1307 هـ). وعلم الحال كلمة يراد منها عدة أمور: علم العقيدة ومعرفة الله وما يجب له، وما يستحيل عليه. وما يجوز في حقهم، وإثبات وجود الله بالدليل العقلي. وكذلك إثبات صفاته، ثم الكلام عن اليوم الآخر، وعلى كل ما فيه، إلى أن يدخل أهل الجنة الجنة، وأهل النار النار.
وكذلك يراد بـ"علم الحال" علم الفقه على شكل مختصر مجتزأ ولكنه كافٍ في معرفة السلوك، سواء في العبادة أو في المعاملة. وكذلك يراد به معرفة جزء من السيرة النبوية، ومعرفة حياة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، ومعرفة أولاده وزوجاته، ومعرفة غزواته، وغير ذلك مما يتعلق بهذا المقام.
كل ذلك وكثير أمثاله وغيره سيجده القارئ لهذا الكتاب بعبارة سهلة يسيرة، تساعده على فهم الدين الذي ارتضاه الله لعباده والعمل بشريعة رب العباد الله جل جلاله.
وخير وصف لهذا الكتاب ما قاله عنه صاحبه أحمد بن عبد الغني بن عمر عابدين: "... لما رأيت الرسالة الشهيرة بـ"علم الحال" لبعض الأفاضل المعتبرين جامعة لمباني الإسلام والدين، إلا أنها باللغة التركية، وقد ترجمتها للعربية ليعمّ نفعها للمؤمنين خلاصة العلماء، ومرجعُ الخاص والعام، السيد محمد أمين أفندي الجندي العباسي، مفتي دمشق الشام (...) وإنها لتصنيفٌ عجيب، وتأليف لطيف غريب، حاويةٌ لأصول التوحيد، مردعة لكل عنيد، قد أعرب فيها وأجاد، وحقق وأفاد، وحرر المباني، وبين المعاني، بألفاظ سهلة رشيقة (...) وأسميته "منح ذي الجلال في إصلاح علم الحال"..".
