كان القرآن الكريم معجزة محمد (صلى الله عليه وسلم) اللغوية لتثبيت دعوته، وإقناع الناس بالتخلي عن معتقداتهم، والإيمان بالعقيدة الجديدة، فإنّه يمكن رصد الظواهر التداولية في نصوصه، حيث أنّ التداولية في أبسط تعاريفها هي دراسة البعد الإستعمالي للغة وما ينجرّ عنه من إنجاز كلامي، وإذا كان الحجاج يشكِّل رافداً مُهمَّاً من روافد البحث التداولي، فإنّه يمكن اعتبار القرآن الكريم نصاً حجاجياً بإمتياز، بإعتباره يطرح أمراً أساسياً يتمثّل في عقيدة التوحيد، ويسعى إلى تثبيت أركان هذه العقيدة ويقدِّم الحجج المدعِّمة لهذا الأمر.
والخطاب الحجاجي مُوجَّهَ للتأثير على آراء المُخاطَب وتغيير سلوكاته بجعله يتقبّل ملفوظاً هو بمثابة (نتيجة) وذلك بالإرتكاز وفق طرق متنوِّعة على ملفوظ أو ملفوظات أخرى هي بمثابة (معطاة) أو (حجّة) وهكذا فإنّ المعطاة تقوم مقام البرهان وتهدف إلى تأكيد قضية أو دحضها.
