الغرض من ترجمة كتاب Fundamentals of service engines هو تدريب القراء وتمكينهم من كيفية فهم صيانة المحركات بسرعة ومهارة وقد بدأ الكتاب معهم من أساس عمل المحركات والصعود بهم إلى مرحلة تعليمية أخرى هي أسباب إخفاق المحركات وتعليمهم طرق تشخيص وإصلاح هذه الإخفاقات في المحرك.
إن هذا الكتاب يمكن أن يكون كمرجع للميكانيكيين الماهرين والفنيين وقد كتب بلغة فنية بسيطة جداً واستعملت فيه (494) صورة إيضاحية وتخطيطية حتى يصبح الكتاب سهل الفهم. وفي نهاية الكتاب هناك (220) مصطلح علمي إنكليزي لأجزاء المحركات والعمليات مرتبة حسب الحروف الأبجدية اللاتينية مترجمة ومشروحة إلى اللغة العربية.
إضافة لجداول الوحدات القياسية في النظامين المتري والإنكليزي وكيفية تحويل هذه الوحدات ومختصرات لرموز هذه الوحدات.
