على الرغم من حداثة سنه نسبياً فقد حقق الكاتب الألماني أرنو غايغر مكانة مهمة في الأدب الألماني الحديث وذلك بعد نشر روايته "مدرسة الكاروسيل الصغيرة" في عام 1997، والتي فازت عام 1998 بجائزة أبراهام وارسيل في نيويورك، وذلك قبل أن تفوز روايته هذه "نحن بخير" في عام 2005 بجائزة الكتاب الأدبي الألماني المرموقة. يرث فيليب أرلاخ بيت جدته في إحدى ضواحي فيينا، إلا أن تاريخ العائلة، الذي لا يريد أن يكون له أيّ علاقة به، يلاحقه أينما ذهب. يسرد أرنو الحكاية للقارئ وكأنها في الحاضر: يتحدث عن ألما وريتشارد، اللذين أنجبا في العام 1938 طفلتهما إنغريد، ويرفضان أيّ علاقة بالنازية. كما يتحدث عن بيتر ابن الخمسة عشر عاماً الذي يستعرض نفسه مع من تبقى من شبيبة هتلر بين الدمار عام 1945. وعن أنغريد التي تريد تأسيس عائلة مع الطالب بيتر وعن ابنها فيليب. رواية رائعة تختصر تاريخ ألمانيا منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية.
