يشكل هذا الكتاب مدخلاً مهماً إلى مفهوم (الوحدة والتنوع) في الفن التشكيلي المعاصر، الذي هو مجموعة إستعارات من مفردات طبيعية وغير طبيعية، تجد مجالاً لها في أعمال الخزف الحديث وأشكال الأحجار، والقواقع والإسفنجات وأشكال الصدفيات. من هنا يتتبع المؤلف تاريخ (الخزف العراقي المعاصر) متخذاً من أعمال بعض الفنانين العراقيين نماذجاً ميزت فنهم وأسسوا بها نظاماً جديداً في الخزف متوازن الرؤية والإبداع.
عن النحت الخزفي في العراق يقول المؤلف: "ما سعى إليه الخزف في العراق هو ما سعت إليه فروع التشكيل الأخرى كالرسم والنحت أيضاً .. هذه الفنون لم تغادر مرجعياتها المؤسسة لنظام بنية الفن في العراق .. إلى الدرجة التي أصبح منها المنجز التشكيلي لا يقوى على قطع أواصره بالمرجع، والفنان في تطلعه الدائم لإيجاد عناصر بناء محاولاً ربطها أو إيجاد علاقة ومبررات جديدة ترتبط مع العناصر الأساسية التي يعتبرها الفنان ضمنية، كالخط واللون والإتجاه والملمس والشكل والقيمة اللونية والحجم، أما العلاقات فهي تلك الروابط التي تجمع الأجزاء الإنشائية مع بعضها البعض التي ينبغي أن يكون كل عنصر فيها متآلف مع الآخر لخلق الإحساس بالترابط المستمر ما بين تلك العناصر ...".
وفي الكتاب أيضاً، يستعرض المؤلف العديد من اللوحات الفنية الخزفية من مختلف العصور ومن جميع البلدان لفنانين كبار، ويقوم بدراستها دراسة فنية تكشف عن خصوصيات كل لوحة، بما في ذلك الأساليب الفنية والجمالية.
