الإمبيريقية كما تفهم في العلوم الإجتماعية هي صفة لتلك الأساليب أو الطرق البحثية التي تعتمد على الملاحظة وجمع الوقائع التي قد تحتاج في بعض الحالات إلى تدقيق وعد وقياس وتحقق، لكن قيام الباحث بإستخدام تلك الأساليب لا يجعله امبيريقيا متفلسفاً بل لا تجعله إمبيريقياً، فالأساليب الإمبيريقية عديدة وذات أشكال متنوعة.
ومع أن الكثير من المنظرين والفلاسفة قد خاضوا جدالاً وقدموا رؤى تناولت الإمبيريقية ضمن مقارباتهم الفلسفية للعلم في صلته بالحقيقة أو الواقع والمجتمع والعالم أو الباحث، كما في صلة ذلك بالعقل والفلسفة والثقافة والبني السائدة، فإن الإمبيريقية في العلوم الإجتماعية وإن تأثرت بتلك المساهمات الفلسفية لا تعني اليوم طرح الأسئلة الفلسفية ذات الطبيعة الميتافيزيقية حول الوقائع أو حول الوجود الفعلي للأشياء، بل أن الإمبيريقيين منشغلون بتجربة المكونات الإجتماعية والظواهر.
في عالمنا العربي لم تحظ الإمبيريقية بالإهتمام المناسب ولم تأخذ مكانها ضمن جهود التأسيس المنهجي وهو ما انعكس سلباً على العلوم الإجتماعية والإنسانية حيث يواجه الباحثون عموماً والشباب خاصة صعوبات كثيرة، لذا كان الهدف الأساسي من هذا الجهد المشترك أن يقوم إستناداً إلى الخبرات البحثية والأكاديمية الطويلة للمشاركين ان يقوم إستناداً إلى الخبرات البحثية والأكاديمية الطويلة للمشاركين بتقديم الإمبيريقية للطلاب والباحثين من خلال نماذج تشمل حقولاً علمية مختلفة ربما يعطي القارئ الفرصة للتعرف على ما تعنيه الأمبيريقية وتطبيقاتها في كل منها.
وتهدف المشاركات التي يضمها هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه إلى تقديم ما يمكن وصفه بتمرين عملي عن البحث الإمبيريقي في مجالات معرفية وأكاديمية متنوعة وبيان الشروط والأساليب والتقنيات التي يمكن للباحث والطالب الجامعي بشكل خاص التعرف عليها كخطوة أساسية للتمكن منها والعمل على تطبيقها في دراسته ومحاولاته البحثية الأولى.
