تعد الرحلات العربية الإسلامية من الإنجازات العلمية الرائدة التي توجت التراث العلمي العربي الإسلامي، فكانت إنجازات أبي حامد الغرناطي رائعة من أدب الرحلات الجغرافي، وأنه جدير بأن يوضع مع رحالة الصف الأول في الأدب الجغرافي العربي، إذ قضى فترة طويلة من عمره يتجول بين بلدان أوروبية وآسيوية، وظل يضرب في ربوع العالم القديم لسنوات طويلة، وهو من القلائل الذين زاروا أقطار أوروبية متعددة عاش فيها ردحاً من الزمن ولا سيما المجر.
ويعد الغرناطي من أهم الرحالة العرب الذين كتبوا للعالم عن الأماكن النائية في روسيا والفولكا وبلاد المجر، وكان جوّاباً، وأكثرهم طوافاً في الآفاق، وأوفرهم نشاطاً وإستيعاباً للأخبار - وبذلك تحدث عن الأجناس الأوروبية وعاداتهم وتقاليدهم ونشاطاتهم الإقتصادية، وكشف النقاب عن كثير من طرق التجارة، وطرق المقايضة التي كانت سائدة حينذاك.
يتناول هذا الكتاب رحلة أبي حامد الغرناطي في فصلين: الفصل الأول: حياته؛ الفصل الثاني: رحلاته.
