تحاول هذه الرواية ـ بقدر الطاقة ـ أن تصور بعض وظائف الهداية التي مارسها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم باعتباره رسول الله وواسطة الهداية بين الله وبين عباده.
وخلاصة أحداثها هي أن الراوي ـ وهو رجل دين مسيحي ـ يذهب إلى بعض الأدغال الإفريقية للتبشير.. وفجأة تتعطل سيارته في بعض الغابات الموحشة.. وهناك يجد شخصا يسمى محمد الهادي.. يدعوه إلى السير معه لهدايته للطريق، ويشرط عليه في كل مرحلة من المراحل أن يستمع لقصة من قصصه..
وفي الطريق يقص عليه هذه القصص العشرة التي ذكرناها في الرواية.. وفي الأخير يصل إلى محل النجاة.. وهناك تحدث أحداث أخرى.. ندعها للقارئ ليتعرف عليها.
