في هذا الكتاب أحلام ماتت قبل أن تولد، هي مجموعة قصص قصيرة لشخصيات تتفاوت في طريقة رؤيتها لذاتها وللحياة بكل شعابها وتعقيداتها وما يعترضها من انتكاسات، رسمتها الروائية بدقة لتؤشر على البعد العام لشرائح ونماذج من البشر تعاني بمجملها من عاطفة مثبطة نتيجة الفوضى والاضطراب التي تسود علاقات الأفراد في مجتمعنا العربي وما تتركه هذه الفوضى من اعوجاجات في بنية الروح الإنسانية، ومما يمكن أن تخلقه هذه العلاقات من التباسات؛ وهذه القصص جاءت بعناوين مختلفة تحتاج إلى دراسة مستقلة بسبب عمقها ودخولها إلى تفاصيل حياة الإنسان في مجتمعنا العربي، ففي قصة "رحيل" تتساءل فاطمة هل ستبتسم الحياة لهذا بعد هذا العناء الطويل، حتى وإن بدت سنون العمر تتراجع وتترك بصمتها على مفرق الرأس وخربشات طفيفة على ملامح الوجه... وهنا تعالج الروائية مسألة إنسانية هي الشيخوخة وبقاء الإنسان وحيداً بعد أن يتركه الآخرين بسبب إنشغالاتهم تقول فاطمة "شعرت أن الناس ربما قل لديهم الإحساس بالآخرين وباتت ديناهم محصورة بأمور تلهيهم عمن حولهم.." أما في قصة "مهاجر" تتطرق الروائية إلى ظاهرة الهجرة بسبب عدم اهتمام الحكومات بتوظيف أبناءها فها هو "سليم" يهاجر إلى بلاد الغربة ويفشل في علاقته مع حبيبته "حنان" تقول حنان "ارحل سليم إني اقولها لك الآن واتركني وحدي..." وهكذا في بقية القصص التي احتواها هذا الكتاب والتي حياتية متعددة جاءت تحت عنوانين مختلفة وهذه القصص هي: "جدران"، "ريشة"، "مكابرة"، "وكانت الخديعة"، "حبيبي أنت!"، "حكاية أبي"، "مدينة وذكريات"، "أحلام"، "رسالة"، "شغلتني الدنيا..!!"، "تبكي بصوت مبحوح"، وأخيراً "الحب".
