فايز فوق العادة: (1942 - ): هو مهندس ومفكر سوري ولد بدمشق عام 1942، تخرج من جامعة حلب بقسم الهندسة المدنية عام 1964، ثم عمل في وزارة المواصلات السورية عام 1974 وأدخل الحاسوب لأول مرة للوزارة، وفي عام 1980 أسس الجمعية الكونية السورية، والتي تهتم بأمور الفلك والرياضيات والفيزياء وإلقاء المحاضرات العلمية المختلفة. كما ساهم بتأسيس الاتحاد العربي لعلوم الفضاء والفلك. كتب فايز أكثر من 380 مقالاً مختلفاً وترجم وألف أكثر من 40 مؤلفاً في الفيزياء والرياضيات والديناميكا والحاسوب.
في الإعلام
قدم برنامجين علميين على التلفاز هما: بطاقة إلى الكون و مجلة العلوم. كما قدم برنامجاً إذاعياً واحداً وهو مجلة العلوم.

للرياضيات جمالها الأخّاذ كلوحة تمثل مشهداً خلاباً، ولكنها ليست المشهد بحد ذاته وللرياضيات سحرها الخاص فهي تمنح الباحث الرياضى الاستقلالية في البحث والتأمل، وتقيم جسوراً أمتن بين الإنسان وأعماقه. ضمن هذه المقاربة تأتي الدراسة في هذا الكتاب حيث يتناول الباحث علاقة الإنسان الحياتية بالرياضيات وعلاقة الرياضيات بهذا الإنسان إذ أنها تمثل مساحة تأمل يحاول الإنسان من خلالها اكتشاف الحقيقة بسبب غور الظواهر المحيطة به.
إن الباحث لم يتناول موضوعه هذا بالطرق المألوفة للبحث في مسائل الرياضيات، إنما كان أسلوبه مغاير، طرح موضوعه من خلال فكر جديد وتناول جديد، إن هو إلا مزيج علائقي من الرياضيات الحديثة والفلسفة والحياة والفيزياء والعلوم الإنسانية، وهو يقدم من طرائق التفكير أكثر مما يقدم من المادة، بالرغم من إحالته إلى كتب ومراجع كثيرة ومتنوعة.
