تحاول هذه الدراسة أن تجيب عن سؤال مركزي هو: هل يؤثر بروز الهوية العربية الإسلامية في دول الإتحاد الأوروبي في إستقراره وأمنه؟...
أن الجاليات العربية والإسلامية التي تشكل ما يقارب 5% من عدد سكان أوروبا البالغ 501 مليون نسمة، تستطيع أن تؤدي دوراً ما؛ ربما "كجسر ثقافي" مهم يربط بين ضفتي البحر المتوسط، سواء في العلاقات السياسية أو الإقتصادية أو الثقافية.
بيد أن بروز "الإسلام السياسي" ممثلة بثورة الخميني العام 1979 في مرحلة السبعينيات من القرن العشرين الماضي بعد 11/ أيلول/ 2001 الأليمة التي وضعت كل مسلم "تحت المجهر" وصنفته بأنه متزمت دينياً، ومتطرف سياسياً، ومن ثم، فهو إرهابي.
في ظل مناخ كهذا، برزت قضايا الرموز الدينية الإسلامية بإعتبارها نوعاً من "الدفاع الذاتي" إزاء الإتهام الدائم بالإرهاب: فكانت قضية منع الحجاب عام 2010، وحضر بناء المأذن العام (2009)، والرسوم المسيئة للرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم العام (2005)، لتزيد من حدة التوتر حول الهوية والهجرة والأمن.
ما أحوجنا أن نقرأ هذا الكتاب الشائق الذي يعطي صورة واسعة وعميقة لما جرى ويجري - حالياً - في أوروبا إزاء العرب والمسلمين سلباً أو إيجاباً، وذلك لإتكائه على "جسد" التأريخ والسياسة وعلى "روح" الدين والثقافة التي تعد من أهم عوامل الحرب والسلام بين الشعوب والألم.
