يبين أن الموضوعات القرآنية التي استأثرت بالدرس و التأليف موضوع الحروف بأنواعها المختلفة, و قد تصدى العلماء لدراستها من الناحيتين اللغوية و النحوية, وبيان ما يترتب على ذلك من أحكام. و كان لحرفي الضاد و الظاء نصيب وافر من هذه البحوث و قد سلك المؤلفون فيها اتجاهين: الأول: معجمي لغوي, يقوم على احصاء الألفاظ الضادية و الظائية في القرآن الكريم, وتفسير معانيها, أو الاكتفاء بذكر نوع واحد منها, و هو الظاء غالباً تمييزاً من الضاد. الثاني: صوتي, يبحث في نطق الحرفين و بيان مخرجيهما و صفاتهما, و تجويد أداء ألفاظهما عند التلاوة. و يكون دور الكلام غالباً على حرف الضاد الذي يعسر على الكثيرين أداؤه على الوجه الصحيح, و مقابلة الحرف بما يلتبس به من الأحرف. و هذا الكتاب يبحث في كيفية أداء الضاد و قد جاء في مقدمة و مقصد و خاتمة. و تضمنت المقدمة الكلام على حروف الإطباق الأربعة: الطاء و الضاد و الصاد و الظاء و بيان أوصاف كل منها, و الاهتمام بحرف الضاد خاصة لأن مدار الرسالة عليه, أما المقصد فتضمن الكلام على ما شاع في الأقطار في زمانه من تلفظ الضادالمعجمة كالطاء المهملة بسبب اعطائها شدة و إطباقاً كإطباق الطاء, و تفخيماً بالغاً كتفخيمها. و دلل على خطأ ذلك لسبعة وجوه. و تضمنت الخاتمة دفع ما عسى أن يورد على المقصد.
محمد بن أبي بكر المرعشي: المرعشي نسبة الى بلدته مرعش و هي مدينة في الثغور بين الشام و بلاد الروم. و حياته حافلة بالنشاط العلمي في مختلف المعارف العقلية و الشرعية, فقد أربت مؤلفاته و رسائله على الستين, وفاته سنة 1150 هجرية.
