مع مصطفى الحدري لا تستطيع أن تكون على الحياد ،فأنت إما مفتون به أو ماقت له ،هذا ما يخص القارئ أما ما يخصه فإنه لا يرضى له أن يكون على حياد ومن يقف على حياد كان خصيمه .كان حاداً في كل أمر ومعتداً بنفسه إلى حد إشقائها وإلى حد التناقض في إظهار فضلها وذلك عبر إفراط في التباهي وإفراط في التواضع ،وما كان التواضع عنده إلا الخطاب الأبلغ في الاعتداد .عموماً كانت شخصية الدكتور مصطفى الحدري قلقة تتنازعها نوازع متضادة في غاية الشدة عبر ثنائيات :(العرفان -الفقه) ،(الشهوة -العفة) ،(الحقد -التسامح) ،(العشائرية -الطبقية) .ولا تخلو شخصيته من الصراع الداخلي ،ولكن ما يجعل الصراع واضحاً عند الحدري هو الحدة والتطرف فكل أمر يريد أن يبرزه في أجلى صوره أو في أكثرها تطرفاً وربما عاد ذلك إلى تكوين نفسي خاص يقوم مزاجه على الغضبية والسوداوية وسط بيئة قاسية .كل ذلك يحاول أن يبينه الكتاب من خلال سرد ديوان الحدري .
