يقول المؤلف بأن ما يتضمنه هذا الكتاب هو إجابات عن أسئلة سأله عنها مؤمنو الجان وطلبو الجواب. وقد أتته هذه الأسئلة مكتوبة في قرطاس (ورق) في فم شخص من الجان في صورت كلب أصفر لطيف ككلاب الرمل، وكانت الورقة مكتوبة بالخط العربي وعند فتحها فوجد فيها ما قول علماء الأنس ومشايخهم ثم ذكروا الأسئلة إلى آخرها. وقد دخل عليه حاملها من طائق القاعة المطلة على الخليج ثم خرج وكأن مراده الدخول إليه من باب القاعة فمنعه المجاورون لظنهم أنه كلب حقيقة.
وقد أجاب سؤلهم وصنف هذا الكتاب في أسئلتهم والإجابات عنها وسمعه "كشف الحجاب والران عن وجه أسئلة الجان" وهذا بعض مما سألوه عنه: عن التشبيه والتعطيل والحلول والاتحاد ولما كان الجسم لا يرى الروح، وسألوه عن الذي شيب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من سورة هود وأخواتها من القرآن العظيم، وسألوه عن السبب المانع من رؤية الباريء في هذه الدار وعن السبب المانع من سماع كلام الله تعالى، وقد بلغت الأسئلة حوالى الثمانين سؤالاً.
