هكذا سمى "برهان الدين الحلبي" كتابه "الكشف الحثيث عمّن رُمي بوضع الحديث"، وقد أوضح بمقدمته بأنه ترجم لكل من وقع عليه من الرواة أنه رُمي بوضع الحديث على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ولم يذكر فيه أنه مُتهم، وذلك لاحتمال أن يراد أنه متّهم بالكذب، وقد بذل المصنف جهداً كبيراً في جمعه وانتخابه من كتب الرجال كميزان الاعتدال في نقد الرجال للحافظ الذهبي، وتراجم من موضوعات ابن الجوزي، وكتاب الجروحين لابن حبّان، ومن تلخيص المستدرك للذهبي وغيرها من كتب الرجال.
ورتبه على حروف المعجم في الاسم واسم الأب، ورقّم على من له رواية في الكتب الستة بالرموز المشهور عند أهل الحديث وبدأه بمقدمة نفيسة ذكر فيها إثم من كذب على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وأصناف الوضّاعين وسبب الوضع. وكيف يُعْرَف كون الحديث موضوعاً. وتأتي أهمية الكتاب أنه أفرد به للرواة الوضاعين والمتهمين بالوضع مما نقل عن الأئمة المتقدمين في ذلك مشيراً إلى سبب الاتِّهام. ولأهمية هذا الكتاب جاء محققاً في هذه النسخة التي بين أيدينا وذلك حتى يسهل على القارئ الاضطلاع على مضمونها بكل سهولة ويسر.
