أخيراً هو ذا جالس في الزاوية الظليلة من مقهى إفلاسه الأبدي وهي ذي رائحة الياسمين تثقب ذاكرته، الآن فقط يستطيع أن يسترجع كل شيء. أمواج الحنين تكاد تجرفه، وكذا الأحزان المترسبة في أعماق روح تتجه بثبات، ومنذ زمن طويل، نحو انطفائها الأمد. ثم أنه بالأساس جاء المقهى هرباً من قيظ الظهيرة وبحثاً عن رائحة الياسمين. بهذا المطلع يبدأ الكاتب قصته ظهيرة قائظة، والتي تأتي ضمن هذه المجموعة القصصية التي تضم بالإضافة لتلك القصة مجموعة من القصص هي: تماماً كأصدقاء، ذنوب الزمان، جهاز التسجيل، فاتورة عربية، صخب.
