يعدُّ كتاب "التحفة النبهانية في تاريخ الجزيرة العربية" لمؤلفه الشيخ محمد بن خليفة النبهاني، أحد أهم الكتب المتعلقة بتاريخ الخليج العربي وجنوب العراق، التي صدرت في النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، خاصة وأن أجزاءه الأربعة التي وصلت لأيدي القراء، غزيرة المعلومات، نتج كثير منها عن معاينة شخصية للمؤلف، أو هي منقولة عن رواة ثقات.
ويقدم الباحث الكويتي "إبراهيم حامد الخالدي" في كتابه هذا، دراسة فريدة لسيرة هذا العالم الذي ولد ونشأة في مكة المكرمة حتى بلغ الثلاثين من عمره، وعاش النصف الأخير من حياته في البصرة، وتنقل بين عواصم الخليج العربي، وكان عالماً متميزاً في علوم شتى، خاصة في العلوم الشرعية، والفلكية، واللغوية، والتاريخية.
كما حرص المؤلف على تسليط الضوء على والد النبهاني، الذي كان عالماً فذاً في علوم الدين، والفلك، وهندسة الري، وترك كلاهما (الأب والإبن) آثاراً علمية، ومؤلفات معتبرة في أبواب المعرفة.
ويقدم الكتاب أيضاً دراسة مفيدة عن (التحفة النبهانية)، ككتاب له أهميته في تاريخ المنطقة مستعرضاً أجزاءه، المطبوعة والمخطوطة، ومتطرقاً لموضوعات تختص بهذا الكتاب من حيث الأسلوب والمنهج والمراجع والطبعات.
ولكي تتم الفائدة وضع المؤلف في ذيل الكتاب ثلاثة ملاحق لها أهميتها، فنشر وحقق في الملحق الأول مختصراً للجزء الخاص بالكويت من التحفة، والذي استبعدته الطبعات الحديثة.
وفي الملحق الثاني اختار بعض النصوص من الأجزاء الثلاثة الأخرى، وهي نصوص طريفة، ومهمة، بينما نشر في الملحق الثالث كافة الصور الفوتوغرافية التي حرص النبهاني على تزيين كتابه بها، بينما حرمت الطبعات الحديثة قراء التحفة منها دون سبب واضح.
