تقتحم عائدة خدّاج أبي فرّاج عالم القصص القصيرة، فيغدو صوتها راوياً إضافياً، للمشهد الإجتماعي اللبناني، لكنه يختلف في "قمر يودع شهره" وقصص أخرى بما تضيفه إلى النص القصص من فكر نقدي، يقارب ويوازن بين الشخصيات والسلوكيات، وبين الوقائع والأحداث، لكي يبرز المعاني الكامنة للقارئ، بحثاً عن دلالاتها البعيدة والقريبة في آن.
في القصة التي تفتتح بها الروائية عملها "قمر يودع شهره" توضح فراج أن الإنسان لا يمكن له الرضوخ إلى المظاهر في الحكم على الناس بل، يتوجب عليه الدخول إلى مضمون الأشياء والناس للوصول إلى الحقيقة، فهذا طارق المهندس المتعلم الذي وصل إلى بلده، يحلم بفتاة أحلامه، سيجدها، ولكن سوء ظنه سيفقده إياها وإلى الأبد، هي ابنه الجيران "هالة" التي حكم على سوء أخلاقها بمجرد أن رآها تعمل نادلة في حانة ليلية، ليكتشف وعن طريق العم "أبو إسماعيل": "مسكينة هالة، تدرس في كلية الحقوق نهاراً، وتعمل حتى ساعة متأخرة من الليل كي تُعيل أمها المقعدة وتؤمّن لها ثمن الدواء".
صدم طارقاً هذا الكلام، وأيقظ روحه وندم لإساءة الظن بالفتاة، وعندما حاول اللحاق بالسيارة التي تقلها، غابت هالة وغاب معها وجهها كأنَّه قمر يودع شهره، وضاع وسط الزحام.
